Tribal Fusion Basket Dance
Thursday, July 3, 2008, Dora Stratou Dance Theater, Athens, Greece Baraka's tribal fusion basket dance was performed as part of the CID 22nd World Congress on Dance Research attended by hundreds of professional dancers from around the world. The basket dance, choreographed by Baraka, evokes the trials and triumphs of an agricultural society dependent upon the planting, growing, and harvesting cycle.

Baraka danced in conjunction with a book reading of Trav S.D.'s "No Applause, Just Throw Money, or, The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous." This is her interpretation of what a vaudeville bellydance performance would look like. Baraka's costume is in the style of what Egyptian dancers and vaudeville copycats would wear around the turn of the 19th century.

"The Dance of Pregnancy"
Sunday, May 17, 2009, Mikis Theodorakis Theater, Athens, Greece Baraka's tribute to the child in her womb which was performed during the 8th month of pregnancy. The dance was part of show "Oriental Expression - Live;" a bellydance extravaganza event that helped to raise funds for the disabled children's school "Keepea-Orizodes."

At the CID 22nd World Congress on Dance Research, Baraka taught a workshop entitled, "Tribal Fusion: An Evolution of Bellydance". This clip from the workshop shows how to exicute an Armenian dance travel step.
